About the Museum

■Mission

The museum was established in 1981 under the tenets of the Byodo Daieikai Religious Corporation as a place to display the Corporation’s collection of artworks and treasures. It was originally called the Oshajo Bijutsu Homotsukan, though its name was changed to Umi-Mori Art Museum in 2005. The museum was founded by Umemoto Reikiyo, the first chairman of Byodo Daieikai. Since its founding, the museum has continued to collect, preserve, research and display artworks and treasures based on the founder’s belief that art should be shared with the world, not stored away privately. As part of Byodo Daieikai’s philanthropic work, the museum holds exhibitions and publishes research about its collection, etc. as it strives to contribute to social harmony through the transmission of art and culture.
